“That was the one good thing about the Brownsville area too. It was a community where everyone looked out for each other, if we did something bad, put it this way, by the time, we went home, it was going to be told.”
“In childhood, I would think the most memorable thing was my grandfather taught me how to drive and then, I think every Sunday, because my dad opened seven days a week but on Sunday, he closed a little early. My grandparents and my parents, they would always take us out to Virginia Key Beach. For a quick dip. Before it got too dark then we would come back home to eat and that was like every Sunday, you know, things were just so, simple. You know, at that time and whatever else even though we couldn't go, that was the only beach that we could go to.”
